Alchemy 2 - A New Global Vision for Enamel

Beate was supported to attend the "Alchemy 2" international exhibition held in Covington, Kentucky. USA

Following the visit, Beate stated in her final report:

"The project was entitled 'Alchemy 2 - A New Global Vision for Enamel', an international juried exhibition, which was held at The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center in Covington, KY.

I was selected to take part in the above exhibition, which coincided with the 14th Biennial Conference of The Enamelist Society (USA), from July 31 to August 7, 2013 at Cincinnati Marriott at RiverCenter Covington, KY.

I also presented a break-out session at the conference on Saturday 3rd Aug 2013,

entitled: Enamel – A discussion on collaboration through commissions, curation and practical sharing of studio opportunities, with the aim of sharing audience experience. (Curation and Dialogue)

The break-out session was extremely well attended with some delegates having to resort to the floor, as we run out of chairs. The feedback was excellent and my talk raised much interest in and awareness of European enamel amongst a pre-dominantly American audience. The focus of the presentation revolved around curating and trans global dialogue, virtual as well as actual. In this I also emphasised my location in Wales as a Welsh artist, which again was received with much attention.

For me the support of Wales Arts International was invaluable as it allowed me to travel to Cincinnati to exhibit as well as attend and present at the conference. This was important on several levels:

As an artist it allowed me to participate in an international juried exhibition and conference. I was able to attend the Private View for the exhibition at the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center and to personally receive the first prize for wall art. To be able to attend in person opens many doors and the ensuing exchange and dialogue with fellow artists and curators was and still is, invaluable. On a creative level it added new thoughts and inspirations, which will enrich future projects.

As a curator it enabled me to meet new artists with the potential to include them in future exhibitions. Again, meeting the artists in person allows for discussion, evaluation and a better understanding of their artworks"
