Meduse Residency, Quebec City
Wales Arts International and Méduse collaborated on a series of residencies for Wales based practitioners.
Méduse is a collective that brings together under one roof ten organisations involved in the cultural and community life of Québec City. The organisations resident within the Méduse complex span a wide cross-section of artistic and cultural practice that includes audio and electronic art, engraving and printmaking, experimental film and video, wood working, metal and photography.
Textile artist Catherine Lewis undertook the first residency, spending the period from the beginning of January to the end of March 2003 exploring her practise and developing a new body of work.

Visual artist Sian Lile was invited to undertake the second residency, which ran from January to March 2005. For her residency Sian was hosted by the print centre Engramme and developed new work exploring elements of mapping, travel, utopia and imaginary cities.

Visual artist and freelance writer Jennie Savage undertook the third residency, which ran from January to March 2006. Working at Avatar, an association dedicated to research, creation and the broadcast of audio and electronic art, Jennie developed new processes into her recording work by taking it to a new level. Her work titled 'Out in the World: An Exploration of the View' will be presented at Chapter on 29 and 30 September 2006.

Betws-y-coed based artist, Sue Corr, was selected for the 2008 Méduse residency. Specialises in Painting, Printmaking and Photography, she has exhibited her work across the UK and participated in the 2006 RSBA Print Prize Exhibition in Birmingham. Now with her own studio based in Betws y Coed, Sue intends to use her time in Québec to produce a new exhibition of her work and to collaborate with other printmakers.

Physical Theatre Performer, Eddie Ladd, was chosen for the Meduse Residency in 2009. Further details of Eddie's erperiences in Meduse will be available soon on the Wales Arts International website.
