Emergence announces Satish Kumar Documentary Project

Arts and sustainability collective, Emergence, who managed and wrote the ground-breaking Arts Council report ‘Culture Shift’, have recently announced their new documentary project celebrating the life and work of teacher and visionary Satish Kumar. Working in association with Resurgence, Schumacher College, Volcano and Culture Colony they will record 6 hour-long conversations funded by a crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo that will run from the 27 April – 29 May 2015.

The connection between Emergence and Satish Kumar has been enshrined in their sustainable practices. Satish’s colourful background started when he became a Jain Monk aged 9 and then, aged 18, he joined the Gandhian non-violent land reform movement. In 1964 he embarked on an 8,000 mile Peace Walk from Delhi to all of the nuclear capitals across the world, without a penny in his pocket, carrying only a message of peace. He has since settled in the UK as Editor of Resurgence Magazine, which champions ecology, art and spirituality, and founded the world’s leading college for activists and change-makers, Schumacher College, which is now celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The documentary series will spread the words and teachings of Satish’s work, deep in conversation with Jane Davidson, a Welsh teacher, activist, former Minister for the Environment and Sustainability and the woman behind the radical One Planet One Wales initiative.
