Residencies at The Clay Studio, Philadelphia

Th Clay Studio logo

In partnership with The Clay Studio, Wales Arts International is delighted to offer residency opportunities for a Wales based ceramic artist at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia.

The Clay Studio is a non-profit educational arts organisation dedicated to the promotion and development of the ceramic arts and the work of new clay artists. The Clay Studio supports the ceramic arts through its artists’ residencies, gallery, studio space and its educational and outreach programmes. The programmes of The Clay Studio reflect the dual character of the organisation: as a community centred institution involved with the life of the city and region and as a national and international focal point for ceramic arts.

Residency programme

As part of its work The Clay Studio pursues an active programme of international residencies and has designated facilities for visiting artists. For the next three years Wales Arts International and The Clay Studio have agreed to support three residencies by Wales based ceramic artists at The Clay Studio. Over the three years we anticipate that artists from a variety of stages of career development, from well established to emerging, younger artists will be able to take advantage of the facilities The Clay Studio has to offer to help develop their artistic practice, as well as benefit from the opportunity to explore the thriving ceramic support network offered by The Clay Studio.

Each artist that undertakes a residency at The Clay Studio is required to leave one work for The Clay Studio’s permanent collection; artists are also requested to present an evening slide lecture for The Clay Studio community and to accompany the Claymobile outreach programme and/or offer demonstrations in the Studio’s classes.

Work created during each residency may be made available for potential inclusion in The Clay Studio’s annual exhibition of work by resident artists.
