Introduction

It's global, but not as they thought we would know it.

It's global, but not as they thought we would know it.

The smaller the world gets, the more we have to learn, the more we have to experience. The smaller the world gets, the more important it becomes that our cultural travels are rich, diverse and full of the experiences of local lives and the voices of individual artists.

The smaller the world gets so must we expand to fill it.

If we are about anything here in Wales in these early footsteps of our 21st century journey we are about reinvention and experimentation; about how we choose to enable different cultures and people with different languages to live together creatively and with respect. A nation confident in its internationalism. A nation wanting, insisting, that culture is placed at the core of its own debate about the values it wants to live by.

So why this Platfform?

Contemporary performance practice here in Wales is deep rooted, parented by numerous individuals and organisations who have acted as shepherds to many of today's performers, creators and practitioners. We hope that with this publication we can share some of the intrigue and belief we have in those artists.

We plan to produce a short series of three or four editions, with each we will aim to explore the work of a number of performance practitioners and offer comment and opinion about their work alongside a record of some of the text behind that practice.

A printed taste of experiences best enjoyed live.
