Aura Season

Aura Dance Theatre, in partnership with Chapter, hosted a two week development period in Lithuania in October 2013 where Wales based choreographer Deborah Light worked to create a 15 to 20 minute piece which was performed during the company's visit to Cardiff later in the month.

Elaina Grey, Development Manager at Chapter:

"Our project allowed for an international residency and performance exchange to take place between Wales and Lithuania, with Deborah Light travelling to Aura Theatre in Kaunas in October and November 2013 and Aura themselves travelling to Chapter in October to perform in the main Theatre space.

Supporting emerging and more established artists plus the presentation of international work is fundamental to Chapter. This project, thanks to support from the International Opportunities Fund, has enabled us to combine the two; the presentation of work from a highly rated international dance company plus the opportunity to support one our artists (Deborah Light) in creating a new piece of work with that company and then presenting it in both Chapter and Kaunas.

The project began in October 2013 when Deborah Light spent two weeks in Kaunas working with Aura’s Artistic Director, Birute Letukaite, to devise a piece called The Curio Cabinet which could be included in Aura’s repertoire for presentation and touring. This piece featured as part of the performance when Aura visited Chapter in October. The link to the performance page can be seen here

Deborah then spent 2 more weeks in Kaunas in November to develop the piece further and it has now been added to both Aura’s and Deborah’s repertoire for future performance use."
