Developing Artstation

Artstation travelled to Hong Kong to present their work at a conference in Hong Kong university and develop contacts in the area.

Glenn Davidson, co-founder of Artstation: "We, Anne Hayes and Glenn Davidson presented work at the Sociolinguistics of Art Symposium at Hong Kong University held at school of English studies.

Importantly the funding allowed us both to attend the conference and visit Hong Kong, which hugely increased opportunities to gain and then develop insights into the context and the potential for future opportunities.

In summary we spoke to a variety of people, where able to research background and read documents on the web before during and after we had discussions with people. The range of people we met enabled us to cross reference differing viewpoints and opinions on the same organisations, issues or developments we visited. We gained access to a whole network of interlinked connections in the academic, cultural and gallery sector.

We would like to thank WAI for their support, without which this visit would not have been possible. The trip has given us an exciting glimpse and insight into the new cultural perspectives growing across South Asia. There is change ahead for Hong Kong itself. With 15 years of the handover period completed, there are unprecedented social and economic processes unfolding There is international attention on the building of West Kowloon Cultural District, and new facilities in Taipei, Beijing, Singapore and in Abu Dhabi. And there is a growing appetite for international artists to work in these new facilities. The trip has enriched us and inspired us to think about the meaning of engaged practice in a South Asian context."
