WOMEX 2018 - Presenter Opportunity

Do you celebrate diversity? Do you or are you planning programming which connects the global community which we live in, to your local communities?

We are offering the opportunity for Wales’ based presenters (venue, festival, promoter, programming music into the ‘Night Out’ scheme, community arts centres) to attend WOMEX ‘18 in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria this October.

WOMEX is the most important international professional market of world music. This international fair brings together professionals from a vast musical spectrum which is unparalleled in the international showcase festival scene; ranging from the most traditional to the new global local underground, embracing folk, roots, local and diaspora cultures and urban and electronic sounds from all over the globe as well as all musical juxtapositions of these. Jazz and classical are explicitly welcomed. WOMEX also includes concerts, conferences, a DJ summit and documentary films.

7 stages, 700+ exhibiting companies, 80 speakers, films, an opening concert and an award ceremony across five packed networking days and rather short nights.

Cerdd Cymru : Music Wales will again lead a Wales stand at WOMEX ‘18 with support from Wales Arts International and Arts Council of Wales.

Why now?

Our communities are undergoing unprecedented change. We want to support positive change, celebrating difference wherever it is found – in race, gender, sexuality, age, language, and disability. We want to bring the world to our communities and our communities to the world.

Who are you?

You will be a presenter (venue, festival, promoter, programming music into the ‘Night Out’ scheme, community arts centres) based in Wales, who is passionate about and celebrates world diversity, has the ability to present international artists and connect them with your local community in Wales.

As a delegate, you will get the opportunity to develop your programming and network with the world’s biggest world music market.

We are looking to support those who are committed to diversity, finding ways to connect Wales communities with the world and world communities to Wales through music, can represent Wales’ culture internationally and, can actively support our diversity vision through a supported visit to WOMEX.

We expect you to embrace this opportunity, to work together with WAI and ACW to achieve the objectives outlined above.
