Wales Curatorial Visits 2012 - Opening Gallery Doors to the World

We are passionate about developing international exhibition opportunities for Wales’ many talented visual artists. To achieve this, we are offering visual arts organisations the opportunity to invite a key international curator of your choosing to see artists work, establish connections and help make international exhibitions happen. With the Artes Mundi Conference and Prize Giving, Experimentica, and Outcasting: Fourth Wall taking place in November, this is an exciting time for the visual arts. We are therefore offering financial support for you to create a bespoke programme of gallery and artist studio visits anywhere in Wales for your chosen curator.

We are looking for proposals from visual arts organisations with an international reputation who will work with at least two smaller organisations/collectives to create a programme where an international curator can come and see artists work first hand. All artists involved must be recognised as producing high quality work. When considering who you would like to invite, think about how you can make these relationships last.

All proposals must take place between Friday 23rd November – Friday 30th November 2012 and can be anything from 2 – 7 days long. We would encourage your programme to include the events above, however this is not compulsory. A representative from your organisations and your chosen curator will be invited to attendthe Artes Mundi Prize Giving and Dinner on Thursday 29th November, in Cardiff.

Wales Arts International will administer the overall project, booking flights, accommodation and arranging visas where necessary.

· There must be an agreed Lead Organisation that will be the main contact for your proposal that has an international reputation

· Lead organisations must partner with at least two smaller organisations/institutions and act as a ‘hub’ for emerging artists

· Applicants must give clear aims and objectives as to why they are inviting a particular curator to see a particular artist/s and the predicted outcomes

· Applicants must show how the curator visit links to their long term goals as an organisation, and how they will sustain the relationships made

· They must submit a proposed programme of activity for the visit that includes visits to artist studios

· The visit must coincide with the dates above

· The member of the lead organisation and the curator must make themselves available to attend the Artes Mundi Prize-giving and Dinner on Thursday 29th November in Cardiff.

· Applications must show value for money in their proposals

Please be aware that in the event of receiving more than one proposal that visits the same studios and/or galleries we may suggest that the programme is combined with that of another applicants. We also reserve the right to involve additional curators in selected programmes at our cost.
