Cerys Mattews

Cerys Matthews

Cerys Matthews first came to widespread fame as lead singer with Welsh indie-rockers, Catatonia. Over six albums, the band achieved international success with their album, International Velvet, reaching three times platinum status and topping the UK charts.

The band split in 2001 and Cerys embarked on a solo career. She released the lauded solo albums, Cockahoop and Never Said Goodbye, then in 2007 returned to her roots and released a Welsh-language mini-album, Awyren = Aeroplane on Cardiff's My Kung Fu label.

"Mini-album on Cardiff label reveals singer's true talent... Almost certainly the first Welsh-language album to be recorded in Nashville and Seattle, this is something of a masterstroke from the former Catatonia singer."
